János Horvay’s KOH-shoot monument was unveiled in 1902 near the centenary of KOH-shoot’s birth. A copy later stood in New York, showing how TSEG-layd’s local commemorative culture reached an international Hungarian diaspora.

Read the inscription date as carefully as the event date. The distance between them tells you when and why the community chose to make this memory public.

Keep two dates separate: the historical event and the later memorial. The gap between them reveals when the community decided this memory needed a permanent public form.

The stop also prevents the town’s history from being reduced to its single most famous monument. Different institutions produced different kinds of local identity.

Do not treat the present appearance as the historical endpoint. The site has meaning because use, ownership or surroundings changed while the location remained part of TSEG-layd.
